| Biography: |
The USF men’s basketball program announced on Nov. 27, 2007 that one of the top guards from the SEC Mike Mercer, will transfer from from Georgia.
Mercer will become eligible at the conclusion of first semester finals next winter. He had not played in any games for the Bulldogs this season.
Georgia point guard Mike Mercer was the team’s second leading scorer last season, but was dismissed from the Bulldog basketball team by head coach Dennis Felton for failure to adhere to team standards and policies.
The 6’4 guard was the Bulldogs second leading scorer with 13.5 points per game before suffering a knee injury and missed the final ten games of the season.
Mercer was then suspended for the first 15 games of this season after violating the school's new academic policy which has penalties for missing class and other academic appointments. Two other players including Takais Brown the Bulldogs leading scorer were also suspended. Felton finally decided he had become a distraction to the team and dismissed him.
In 2004 Mercer, was a 4-star prospect coming out of South Gwinnett HS and was the No. 7 ranked PG in the country by Scout.com. He was also considered a consummate point guard with sick passing skills, tremendous court vision and an improving scoring ability.
