Biography:
USF head coach Jim Leavitt officially announced the hiring of Kevin Patrick to the position of defensive ends coach.

“Kevin was with us before and did a great job as a coach and player,” said Leavitt. “We are excited to have him back. He has a great amount of passion for the game and USF. He is a tremendous teacher and will do great things with the defensive ends. He will be tremendous asset to the defensive staff that Defensive Coordinator Wally Burnham oversees.”

Kevin Patrick was one of Leavitt’s original assistants when joined the staff in 1996 as a defensive end coach and was on the Bulls inaugural team in 1997 through the 98 season.

“I am honored to be back with USF,” said Patrick. “I have nothing but fond memories of my first three years on staff and can’t thank Coach Leavitt and his staff enough for this second opportunity to be a part of the Bulls family.”

Before Joining the Bulls Patrick was an All-American defensive end, and a Big East defensive player of the year while at Miami (89-93). He also helped lead the Hurricane team to the 1992 National Championship with a win over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Patrick also played in the Cotton, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls during his career. After his career with Miami he spent some time in the NFL.

Although Patrick never coached under Wally Burnham, he is very familiar with the Bulls defensive coordinator, who was the linebacker coach at Florida State from 1985-93 and has been a defensive coordinator for USF since 2001.

“It will be an honor to work with Coach Burnham,” said Patrick. “I remember him very well from my playing days when we battled against Florida State. The FSU defense was always one of the most well-coached units in the country and the linebackers were usually the driving force of that unit.”

Coach Leavitt has praised Patrick and how he will help in recruiting.

“Kevin is a tremendous coach, a tremendous recruiter, and the people in the state of Florida will be excited about that. He’ll be right back recruiting Fort Lauderdale, and he’ll do a great job.”

“I am already looking at a whole new slate,’ said Patrick “Last season was last season, we need to build on that success and do bigger and better things in 2008.”

He graduated from Miami in 1994 with a degree in business administration
