While at Jefferson, Jones was named first team all-western conference both as a junior and as a senior, and was an All-State honorable mention his senior year. Jones was a three-year starter for Jefferson, and played in the Class 3A state championship twice in his four seasons. Jones came on strong as a junior and senior with 70 tackles and 8.5 sacks his senior season, which was preceded by 50 tackles and 10 sacks during his junior campaign.
He signed with Colorado State out of high school in 2006, and was also recruited by Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Louisville, and San Diego State among others.
