The University of South Florida Bulls have announced a contract extension for men's basketball head coach Stan Heath through 2015.

TAMPA -- The University of South Florida and Director of Athletics Doug Woolard announced a contract extension through 2015 for men's basketball head coach Stan Heath.

"I am very pleased to extend Stan's contract," said Woolard. "In just three years, he has been able to position our men's basketball program as a viable competitor within the BIG EAST Conference and nationally. Winning games in the best conference in America is no small feat, and to have us in the postseason in that period of time is one heck of an achievement.

"More importantly, I believe he is doing a terrific job of laying the foundation for continued success. We have every intention of competing at the very highest level in men's basketball at USF, and Stan is providing the leadership necessary to do that. With the opening of the state-of-the-art Pam and Les Muma Basketball Center during the 2010-11 season, an extraordinarily vibrant university, a great conference, a rich talent base and group of returning players, we have it all in place to win big at USF."

Heath signed a contract that added three years to his previous agreement, which was due to expire on August 1, 2012.

Heaths owns a career record of 151-131 during nine seasons as a head coach. He just completed his third season at USF, where he owns s a 41-54 career record that is highlighted by the momentous 2009-2010 season.

In his third season in Tampa, Heath led the Bulls to USF's third 20-win season ever with a 20-13 record, and returned to the postseason for the first time since 2002 when the Bulls hosted NC State in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. The Bulls also earned their first win in the BIG EAST tournament and registered the school's best regular season BIG EAST record with nine wins, more than doubling the previous season's best of four.

"My family and I are honored and appreciative of USF's commitment to our basketball program," said Heath. "My staff and I look forward to the work ahead in building a championship program. It's an exciting time to be a USF Bull."

In 2009-10, USF registered back-to-back victories over ranked teams against No. 17 Pittsburgh (Jan. 31) and at No. 7 Georgetown (Feb. 3). The win over the Hoyas was USF's first-ever road win over a top-10 team.

Under Heath's tutelage, explosive junior guard Dominique Jones led the team in scoring, finishing his season as the only player in the country averaging at least 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. At Providence on Jan. 23, Jones had 46 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to set the USF single-game scoring record. He was a first team All-BIG EAST player, won the BIG EAST scoring title and was named to the AP Honorable Mention All-America Team.

Jones, who was an early entry into the NBA Draft, went on to become a first round pick with the 25th overall selection by the Memphis Grizzlies, who traded his rights to the Dallas Mavericks. Jones is the first player in program history to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

USF returns six letterwinners, as well as Kansas State transfer Ron Anderson who sat out 2009-10, for the 2010-11 campaign that tips off in November.

The Bulls will get the opportunity to bond as a team and jump start preseason workouts when they represent the USA in the Pan Am University Championship in Salvador, Brazil from August 8-15.
