Athlete Marvin Kloss
of Barron Collier HS, one of the top rated kickers in the nation, took an official visit to USF last weekend Tampa. Saying he had a great time, really liked the program, the facilities, and Head Coach Skip Holtz
Kloss said the Bulls really liked him as a kicker but since they were tight with scholarships with who they have committed, they were seeing who's eligible to play and if they could free one up. He left Tampa without an offer, but was told by Coach Holtz that he would get a call later in the week after meeting with the academic committee.
"I would like to go to USF, they've always been my favorite place," said Kloss. "If they offer me, then that's where I'll go."
Kloss has been talking with Coach Franks and Coach Vaas, who called him this week to tell let him know what was going on, and Coach Holtz called him Wednesday night around 9:30.
"Coach Franks told me they really want me based on my skills, but are still working things out," said Kloss. "Coach Holtz was on his way back from Atlanta and told me he's having a preliminary meeting Friday with the committee, and should have an answer for me by Monday."
Kloss said he's hoping for the best, but understands the hectic situation going on at USF right now, and is entertaining other schools. He has a visit already scheduled for Purdue
this weekend, but another Florida school has entered the race and they may try to bring him in this weekend.
contacted me because they're looking for a kicker and the ones they're on are committed," said Kloss. "Coach Robinson from Miami said they will stop by Friday and let me know. I would probably just go over for one day on Saturday. I just want to check out the program, the facilities, and meet everyone."
Marvin said he'd know by Friday afternoon whether he'd be taking a visit to Purdue or Miami this weekend.
Kloss said the Bulls are also looking into a gray shirt and other options. He carries a 4.3. GPA and scored a 26 ACT and a 1080 on his SAT and qualifies for a Florida Bright Future scholarship.
"The worst case scenario would be that I have to pay for my freshman year and then be on scholarship my sophomore year."
Would that be an option for the talented kicker?
"I'd be able to do that based on academic scholarships, and because I have pretty good academics," said Kloss. "And it would be an option if Miami didn't come through and I didn't like Purdue, but I'd rather just get an offer and get it over with.
Until USF can work out the scholarship count, Kloss said all he can do is wait and to see if they will offer him for this class.
"I really want to go to USF," said Kloss. "And if they offer I will commit."
Kloss is a phenomenal athlete, catching 8 passes for 163 yards and 2 TDs, and also had 2 rushes for 56 yards. But his leg is what makes him so special. He's rated #1 ranked kicker nationally by Kornblue's Fab 50, and was the Kicking Champion at Brandon Kornblue's Kicking Challenge, impressing all on kickoffs and by showing the ability to kick FG's off the ground. In 2009 went 8 of 8 on field goals with kicks of 49, 47, 46, and 41, went 41 of 42 on PATs.
