LB Darrin Kitchens Reshuffles Visits
Earlier in the year Kitchen was a bit under the radar, but after his monster season schools have taken notice and he's been busy with coaches coming by and visiting him this week.
"Yeah it's been crazy, lot of coaches have stopped by my school this week," said Kitchen. "Florida, Syracuse, South Florida, and Memphis all came by. FSU and Marshall came by today, and Colorado State is coming by tomorrow." Kitchens added "They all saying the same thing, they want me to come play."
Kitchen has already visited Syracuse, saying the visit was great, and changed his thoughts on the program. He had visits set up with Michigan on the 8th, and USF on the 22nd, with a tentative visit with Florida, but recently changed his visit schedule.
"Tomorrow I'm going to see Florida State, next Weekend I'm going to UF, the weekend after that I'm going to USF, and on the weekend of the 29th I'm undecided," said Kitchens.
With offers from top programs including offers from Florida, Florida State, USF, Syracuse, Michigan, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Maryland, UCF, FIU, FAU, and Marshall, Kitchens says he's narrowed down his list to a few select schools, but is favoring two right now over the others.
"I have Florida and Syracuse as my top two," said Kitchens. "Both are good schools and great schools academically. Florida has a great football team, and Syracuse is on the way up, but I see a lot of opportunity to come out and start as a freshman and help turn the program around. Also the opportunity for life after college is great at both schools."
USF "They came in the spring and offered me a scholarship on the spot, and have been coming strong ever since. They're a young program, only playing D-1 for like 14 years and have gone to five consecutive bowl games in a short amount of time and that says a lot. Coach Scott says they need linebackers and that I'd have a good chance to play early. They're still a school that I'm considering"
FSU "They're pretty good, but they're not that high on my list. They've been in and out with recruiting me, but have stepped it recently, so I'm gonna go check them out just to make sure. "
What's the coveted linebacker prospect looking for in making his choice?
"Playing time may make a difference, but first I'm looking for a school where I'm going tom benefit the most from, both on the field and off the field," said Kitchens. "And then I like to be able to compete for the national championship."
The Homestead standout said his visit to Syracuse caused them to jump to the top of his list, but could a visit to FSU, or USF change how he feels?
"I don't know, I don't think so, but you never know," said Kitchens.
Kitchen says he's enjoying the whole recruiting process, but knows he has to make his choice soon.
"I definitely like all the attention," said Kitchens. "I want to make my choice but it's hard to decide."
