Running back Mike Hayes is a playmaker for one of the top JUCO programs in the country, and has decide to play for the Bulls! Read on for all the details.
Blinn college running back
Michael Hayes
is one of the top backs that played for one of top JUCO’s as well. The5-9, 195 pound back scored two touchdowns and had over 100 yards against Fort Scott Community College to give Blinn the national-title in the recent Citizen's Bank Bowl.
In our recent Quick hits we mentioned that the Bulls head
Jim Leavitt
along with Coach
Carl Franks
took a trip to Texas to visit Hayes Wednesday and Hayes says the visit went great.
‘Yes sir “the visit went great, it went really good,” said Hayes. “
South Florida
is the school I’m going to go to commit to.”
Hayes had offers from
Kansas
,
Kansas State
,
Southern Miss
, with many other schools showing interest, but after receiving a recent offer from USF several weeks ago the Bulls were at the top of his list.
“I’ve had it in the back of my head for awhile. Me, my mom, my peers and coaches have been talking about how great a school it was and how good of a situation I’d be going into, and everything. And today just topped it all off.”
Hayes didn’t tell the coaches his decision at first saying we would call them later the next day.
“They told me not to rush into my decision and commit. He told me to wait to get to know him and the team when I go on my visit,” said Hayes. “But in my heart I knew that is where I wanted to go, and the place I want to be.” Hayes added “I can’t think of any other place I’d rather be.”
“I really liked how much interest they showed in me,” said Hayes. “They showed me more love than any other college that offered me or talked to me, and that meant a lot.”
Hayes finished the season with 1,100 yards rushing on 186 carries and scored 18 TDs this season and as a freshman, had 750 rushing, with 300 receiving and 10 scores and likes what the Bulls offense has to offer.
“The situation couldn’t be better. I’m a running back but I also like to go out and play slot sometimes and catch balls out of the backfield.”
“As a running back one of my best assets is my speed, but I do have power for my size,” said Hayes. “I bench over 350 pounds and squat 550, so I have a lot of power.”
The youth of the team and the returning players was something that stood out for the standout JUCO back who will have 3 years to play two.
“They said that I’m the back for their offense,” said Hayes. “They got a young QB in
B.J. Daniels
, and they have everybody coming back and they’re a very young team. We have a very good chance of winning the BIG EAST and it’s a great opportunity to go to a great school and do great things.”
Hayes has his official visit with USF on the 22nd was set to visit Kansas on Jan. 15, but that’s not going to happen now.
“No USF will be the only visit I’ll take,” said Hayes. “That’s where I’m going to go.”
“They’re a great program. I’ve seen them play on TV, and they did real good in their Bowl game,” said Hayes. “I know they got ranked really high in the nation two years ago, and this year they started out 5-0. They got a real good football program building down there. I’m glad to be part of it.”
