Canales Assess the Offense After Week Two

USF Ofensive coordinator Mike Canales about the Bulls offense in the 35-13 win over Western Kentucky and evaluates the offenses through the first two games of the season.

Canales talks about how Mike Ford will be used in the offense now that he’s set to return. How the offense has progressed through the first two weeks, the second half adjustments made at halftime against WKU. Coach also talks about the improved play of Carlton Mitchell, and fixing the missed opportunities on big plays.

Coach also talks about the health of receivers Jessie Hester Jr., and A.J. Love. Coach also talks about the two touchdowns in the last two weeks by Theo Wilson, who he calls ‘Big Money’, saying he’s got the juice and picks up where T.J. left off. Canales also evaluates Matt Grothe’s play and what he needs to do to more successful. Coach also talks about the importance of scoring after the bad penalties, and about the Bulls version of the wildcat, ‘Toro Loco’, and why they wanted to show it this week.

Canales comments on all the penalties and what they’re doing to correct it. He also talks about Mo Plancher’s performance and the play of the running backs. Coach also talks about how well the offensive line is doing, who’s led by the ‘cow bell’ Sampson Genus and the tough play of guard Chaz Hine, who he calls ‘Block Head’.

Coach says he’s ecstatic about the 7.0 average by the running backs unit, and says even though the o-line had some penalties, but he doesn’t want to take away their aggressiveness and wants them to have that hard edge mentality. Canales also talks about Charleston Southern, and the importance of coming out, be fundamentally sound, being aggressive, playing smart, and doing what they’re supposed to do, things that the team has done in spurts.
