The Bulls have just 8-days until the season opener against Wofford, and USF co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach David Blackwell spoke to USFNation in this exclusive video interview. Here are some of the highlights.

Coach Blackwell e likes what he sees from his line backing corps, but isn't satisfied.

"We're still not ready to play a game yet," said Blackwell. "We still got a week to go and we're going to keep working hard and hopefully will be ready by game day."

Blackwell says the unit has progressed since the start of training camp, having its good moments, with guys doing some good things, but have also had it's bad moments.

"What we're looking for is some consistency out of the group," said Blackwell. "Kion (Wilson) has probably been the most consistent, and has assumed the leadership role. Chris (Robinson) and Sabbath (Joseph) have had their days, and we just need those guys to be really consistent for us."

The Bulls Coach says that only senior MLB Kion Wilson has separated himself from the pack, but also said that Chris Robinson and Sabbath Joseph have the lead on the outside due to their experience, "You could say they have the lead but we're still working a lot of people and nothing is etched in stone." Both Robinson and Sabbath have been working at both outside spots and coach says they've cross trained a lot people this camp.

As for the back-up spots coach says those are still up for grabs, and the young guys are making a push. Redshirt freshman Mike Lanaris and Armando Sanchez are in the mix as well as several newcomers. True Freshman Sam Barrington has done very well, and DeDe Lattimore has shown some good things. JUCO transfer Jaquian Williams has had a great camp and shown a lot of ability, "We got to find a way for him to help this football team," said Blackwell.

With guys still pushing to make the two-deep, Coach is looking for someone to emerge from that group, but don't expect a heavy rotation. "I've never been much on rotation players, starters play until they're tired," said Blackwell. "If it's close between two players, then we'll rotate."
