Linebacker Tyrone McKenzie who was selected in the third round (97th overall) by the Patriots signed a rookie deal, the team announced today.

signed a rookie deal with the
New England Patriots
today, the team announced. McKenzie was selected in the third round (97th overall) by the Patriots, but will miss the season after tearing knee ligaments in minicamp.
According to the Boston Globe, McKenzie got a four-year deal worth $3.124 million and a $631,000 signing bonus.
In his four-year collegiate career, McKenzie started in 36 of the 49 games he appeared in, and recorded at least 100 tackles in three straight seasons.
USF:
In 2008 Tyrone McKenzie was a Butkus, Nagurski and Lott Trophy nominee and started all 13 games leading the Bulls with 115 tackles, 14 for a loss, with one sack, the third consecutive season that he has totaled at least 100 tackles. In 2007 he was The Bulls’ leading tackler with a USF single-season record 121 tackles at strong side linebacker, and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. 78 of his tackles have been solo, with 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Tied a USF single-game record with 18 tackles in the season finale at Pitt. Seven games with 10 tackles or more. He also blocked a kick against

. His 237 tackles as a Bull was the highest total by any South Florida player over a two-year span
ISU:
- in 2006 he Garnered All-Big Twelve Conference second-team honors. As the Cyclones' middle linebacker, he registered a career high 129 tackles, second on the team and in the league. He also had two sacks, 9.5 stops for loss, three pass break-ups and an interception. In 2005 he was named defensive scout team player of the year, sitting out after transferring.
Michigan State
:
in 2004 he played in 11 games as a true freshman, making three tackles.
