Top Georgia CB Has Favorites
This year they are targeting several promising Georgia athletes including Darius Robinson a standout corner back from Westlake High School, in Atlanta. Who just began spring ball this week.
"It feels great to be back out here after a long basketball season," said Robinson. "We were supposed to go full pads today but the weather got real ugly."
So far this spring Robinson has seven offers from teams such as Duke, Toledo, Southern Miss, UCF, East Carolina, Middle Tennessee, and also received an offer from the South Florida Bulls while plenty of other teams are showing interest.
"It's been crazy the different schools that are recruiting me, schools like Cincinnati, Washington, and there were like eight division one schools at practice yesterday."
"My top teams of the schools that offered are USF, Duke, & UCF, and Alabama, Stanford and UCLA are my top three of the ones that haven't."
Robinson had 42 tackles and three interceptions as a junior last season, and is being considered as one of the top corners in the peach state. He's also fast, running a 4.4 40-yard dash and on special teams had over 500 yards with two returns taken back for touchdowns.
"I bring a lot of intensity to the field," Robinson said. "I also like to pump my team up."
At 5'11.5 and 174 pounds, the talented DB has put on size and has increased his bench to 235 pounds this spring, but still has areas he wants to work on.
"I want to work on my mechanics," said Robinson. "We haven't had cornerback coach here, so basically I've been working off straight talent. I need to get a good coach that can teach me some fundamentals."
The talented corner has been talking to Bulls defensive coordinator and secondary Coach Tresey. "He's a real nice guy and we have a good relationship."
Robinson started gaining recognition as a starting corner for team Georgia at the Scout/Badger 7-on-7 tourney in Tampa in March. Showing great hips, fluid backpedal, and lots of speed as he blanketed receivers all day.
"That was a great tournament. We were loaded and should have won, but lost to the Alabama team that had Georgia players on it."
"I like all of Florida, there's a lot of competition down there, and I feel if I go down there I'll be competing against the best. There's a lot of speed down there."
While in Tampa, Robinson and his mother drove around the campus and got to see it from the outside.
"I really liked it. I like the city of Tampa, there's a lot going on down there, and it's a lot like where I'm from. I don't want to be somewhere little in the country, I want to be somewhere it's alive."
"Right now South Florida is my number 1 school," said Robinson.
"It's a program that's really coming up, and I been hearing a lot of good things about USF, they're a good team. I want to go to a school where I can play and come away with a lot of recognition from playing at a good school."
Robinson doesn't plan on making a decision until mid season after taking a few official visits and this summer plans on making it to a lot of college camps.
"I have to get my calendar out to plan it out," said Robinson. "I might as well just take a tour."
