The South Florida coaching staff got big news today when they recived a verbal commitment today from their top JUCO defensive line prospect Jason Pierre-Paul. Read on to find out why the 6'5-280 pound 5-star DE chose USF over Nebraska and Kansas State. Only on USFNation.com!
Thursday morning the Bulls coaching staff found out that they landed the top JUCO defensive line prospect on the board when 5-star JUCO All-American DE Jason-Pierre-Paul of Fort Scott Community College gave a verbal commitment to play for USF.
“Jason committed to USF” said Fort Scott CC Head Coach Jeff Sims. “He told me several hours ago, and will sign with the Bulls.”
Originally from Deerfield Beach, Pierre Paul first went to College of the Canyons and had an All-American season as a freshman before transferring to Fort Scott. Pierre Paul received interest from nearly every school in the country including but narrowed done his choices to the schools he visited,
Oklahoma State
,
Nebraska
,
Kansas State
, and USF, but it was his desire to move back to the sunshine state that gave the Bulls the edge.
“His main reason for choosing the Bulls was he wanted to move back closer to home,” Said Sims. “He really wanted to get back to Florida.”
Pierre-Paul finished the 2008 season at Fort Scott with 58 tackles, 15 for loss, 10 sacks and one interception, and was named a second team All-American and a first team all-Jayhawk Conference. As a freshman at Canyons, Pierre-Paul amassed 49 tackles, 14 sacks, an amazing 19 tackles-for-loss, one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery and he's off to a great start already for the Greyhounds.
“Jason is a tremendous player,” said Jeff Sims. “He’s as good as they come.”
Jason Pierre-Paul
joins his Fort Scott teammate All-American LB Jaquian Williams, LB 6-foot-4 230 pounds. Pierre-Paul and Williams took their official visit together to USF on the 12th, and will now be teammates once again at
South Florida
.
“I’m sure there will be a transition period, but once he gets settled in, he’ll be a great player.”
Jason Pierre Paul is a 3 for 2 guy and is on pace to finish up this may, and will join the Bulls directly after.
