Teeng Akol Profile

The South Florida Bulls locked down a key frontcourt target Wednesday when 6'11-225 pound Teeng Akol of IMG Academy, a 3-star power forward, verbally committed to play for USF as part of the '08 class.

"Yes I committed to them after the weekend," said Teeng. "I had a great relationship with Coach Heath, and I really liked the whole environment, the weather, everything"

Before committing to the Bulls, Teeng said he was also considering Oklahoma and West Virginia.

"I liked the chance to play in the Big East, and it was a good opportunity," said Teeng. "I also think Coach Heath is a great coach and we have good communication."

Teeng, a native of the Sudan, competed a season ago at Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, and had a solid season for OSNA, showing the ability to score from the perimeter as well as deliver points around the rim. He then transferred to IMG.

"I've improved a lot while at IMG and understand the game a lot better." said Akol. "It was great working out and practicing with pros and college players. I've improved in strength and mentally, they taught me to make the game easier, and it'll help me at the next level."

The 3-star prospect also played for the New York Elite of the AAU, and is excited to play college ball.

"Oh yeah, the Big East! We're going to do a lot of things," said Teeng. "We're going to surprise people."

Teeng has committed but hasn't signed the paperwork to make it official yet.

"Not yet, but as soon as possible. I'm happy with my decision."

Right now the main concern is where he stands academically. Teeng still has to get a qualifying score a placement test, but is planning on taking it on June 7th.

"I've been practicing a lot, and I have the confidence that I'm going to pass it."

Akol is the one prospect the staff has had its eyes on for some time. He's a 6-11 power forward who can face up or shoot with range, is extremely skilled with the ball, and passes it fairly well. He still needs to work on a few things and polish his game, but you don't find many 6-11 guys who can bang on the inside, and shoot from the outside like he does, He could be a perfect fit for the Bulls who are in need of some true low post weapons.
