USF's Gransberry & Jones Earn All BE Honors

Monday morning conference officials announced that USF center Kentrell Gransberry earned all-BIG EAST First Team & Dominique Jones was a selection on the Big East All-Rookie Team, and an All-Big East Honorable Mention.

When it was all over and all votes were tallied, USF senior center Kentrell Gransberry and freshman sensation, guard Dominique Jones each were selected to the 2007-08 All-BIG EAST Team Monday morning.

“We are extremely happy for both Kentrell and Dominique,” said head coach Stan Heath. “Both players had tremendous seasons and their honors are very deserving.”

The 6-9, 270-pound Gransberry was named to the All-Big East First Team and Dominique Jones was a unanimous selection on the Big East All-Rookie Team, and an All-Big East Team Honorable Mention.  

Kentrell was the first Bull to earn first team honors since joining the Big East after averaging a double-double for the entire season with 16.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.  His 325 boards were tops in the Big East in for the second straight season.

In just 53 games with USF, Gransberry finished his career with 588 rebounds, averaging 11.1 rebounds per game for his career, a USF record. 

 

Jones is the first Bull named to the All-Rookie team and USF’s third All-Big East Honorable Mention selection. He set the USF freshman scoring mark with 531 points after leading the team in scoring with 17.1 points per game, and also had 4.6 rebounds per game. Jones was the only Bull to start all 31 games and scored more then 20 points 10 times and 30 or more three times. 

Four times this season, (03/03, 2/18, 12/10, & 12/03)  Jones earned Big East Rookie of the Week, second most in the conference this season as well as being named the Sporting News National Player of the Week on 12/03.  

“Dominique is a player who came to USF unknown nationally,” said Heath. “But he made a tremendous impact on our team and around the league. We see an exciting future for him as he continues to develop.”
