Erick McGriff, wide receiver from Tampa-Jesuit, (Fla.), is the son of former MLB All-Star Fred …
Tampa WR preparing for big senior season
"I'm a big receiver and I also like returning punts."
Last season McGriff had over 550 yards receiving with 4 touchdowns. However he might be most valuable to USF in the return game. Since losing Ean Randolph in '06 the Bulls have been unable to find a game-changing return man. Could McGriff be the missing piece?
"Last year I had one punt return for a touchdown and I brought back two kicks for touchdowns."
At 190 pounds and entering his senior year, McGriff says he utilizes his size to take advantage of smaller corners.
"When a corner is playing in press coverage it definitely is to my advantage. I like to run either a quick slant over the middle or a post corner. I try to use my height and size as much as I can."
McGriff says he would prefer to play his college ball instate, but says he's not counting anyone out. Growing up Erick watched a lot of football and although he doesn't have a favorite team he likes the kind of football that is played in the South.
"I watch all the football I can. I never really had a favorite team, I like watching any ACC or SEC game. I think Southern football is the best."
In the off season Erick is staying in shape by playing power-forward on his high school basketball team. He also plans to attend the annual South East Combine held at Raymond James Stadium and he'll attend a couple college camps including Auburn, UF and Boston College.
USFNation.com will follow Erick throughout the year and if/when the Bulls offer we'll be the first to let you know.
