USF to Announce New Defensive End Coach

While on air last night, Coach Leavitt mentioned that former USF assistant coach and All-American Kevin Patrick is set to be announced as new DE coach.

USF head coach Jim Leavitt was a guest on 560 WQAM Sports Radio’s ‘The Miami Dolphins High School Gridiron Report with Larry Blustein’ last night. While on air, Coach Leavitt tipped his hat as to who the Bulls next defensive line coach would be, and it’s a name that long time Bull fans will remember.

“By the way, we just hired Kevin Patrick, that’s a big name,” said Leavitt. He’s an All-American defensive end out of Miami that also played for Oakland. He coached for me his first two years.”

Kevin Patrick was one of Leavitt’s original assistants when he was a defensive end coach on the Bulls inaugural team in 1997. Before Joining the Bulls Patrick was an All-American defensive end, and a Big East defensive player of the year while at Miami (90-93), and spent some time in the NFL.

The former Bulls coach will replace Dan McCarney who joined the Gator staff last week.

“Dan (McCarney) went over to Florida, and I certainly wish him well, but it gave us the opportunity to get Kevin Back.”

Leavitt also mentioned what area Patrick will be recruiting for the Bulls.

“He’ll be right back recruiting Fort Lauderdale, and he’ll do a great job. He’s real excited about coming here.”

An official statement hasn’t been released yet, but Leavitt was more then excited to have Patrick back on the staff.

“Kevin is a tremendous coach, a tremendous recruiter, and the people in the state of Florida will be excited about that.”
