The USF men’s basketball team may once again be getting help on the court via a transfer. This time its a former 4-star prospect and Georgia's second leading scorer last season.

The USF men’s basketball team may once again be getting help on the court via a transfer as reported by Foxsprts.com.

Georgia point guard Mike Mercer was the team’s second leading scorer last season, but was dismissed from the Bulldog basketball team last week by head coach Dennis Felton for failure to adhere to team standards and policies. Sunday night, Jeff Goodman of Foxsports.com reported that he intends to transfer to the Bulls.

The 6’4 guard was the Bulldogs second leading scorer with 13.5 points per game before suffering a knee injury and missed the final ten games of the season.

Mercer was then suspended for the first 15 games of this season after violating the school's new academic policy which has penalties for missing class and other academic appointments. Two other players including Takais Brown the Bulldogs leading scorer were also suspended. Felton finally decided he had become a distraction to the team and dismissed him.

In 2004 Mercer, was a 4-star prospect coming out of South Gwinnett HS and was the No. 7 ranked PG in the country by Scout.com. He was also considered a consummate point guard with sick passing skills, tremendous court vision and an improving scoring ability.

If and when Mercer joins the Bulls, he will have to sit out until December of next year and will have one and a half years of eligibility remaining.

The Bulls have found a penchant for getting help from transfers. Last year 4-star forward/guard Aaron Holmes transferred to USF from Florida State and will be eligible in January. In 2005, center Kentrell Gransberry (LSU) and guard Jesus Verdejo (Arizona) transferred to USF and are the Bulls leading scores this year.

The Bulls are riding a 3 game winning streak after starting off 0-3 and travel to FIU for tonight’s game.

Stay tuned for any more developments as they become available.
