The BIG EAST Conference has named USF safety Nate Allen the Defensive Player of the Week for his 3 take-a-way performance in the Bulls 26-23 OT win over the Tigers, and QB Matt Grothe was named to the Honor Roll. Louisville running back Anthony Allen was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Cincinnati kicker Jake Rogers Special Teams Player of the Week for games through Sept. 8.

Nate Allen had a hand literally, in three turnovers that led a USF defense that forced five Tiger turnovers in the USF’s’ stunning 26-23 overtime win at No. 17/13 Auburn. Nate intercepted a pass in the second quarter to stop a Tiger scoring drive deep in USF territory. He recovered a Cox fumble on the Tigers’ opening drive of the third quarter and forced a fumble later in the third. He added seven tackles, including six solo stops, with a pass breakup. Not bad for the sophomore’s second start of his career. In two games played Allen has 4 take-a-ways.

Matt Grothe, USF's sophomore QB was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after throwing the game-winning TD pass to Jessie Hester Jr. in the 26-23 overtime win at No. 17/13 Auburn. Grothe finished the game with 18-for-27 for 184 yards, and added 67 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Anthony Allen played a big  part in Louisville’s 729-yard  offensive performance as he rushed for a school-record 275 yards with two touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 58-42 win against Middle Tennessee State. The yardage total is third on the BIG EAST’s single-game rushing chart.

Jake Rogers made field goals of 38 and 55 yards and was 4-for-4 on PATs in Cincinnati’s 34-3 win against Oregon State. His 55-yard field goal in the third quarter stands as a Nippert Stadium record and is the second-longest converted by a Bearcat kicker.
