The Bulls have now racked up their third commitment of the '08 class. Last night USFNation broke the story on Armando Sanchez and now we have an exclusive interview with the latest commit Andreas Shields. Read on to find out why he chose USF. Only on USFNation.com -- Get it First, Get it Fast!
The staff at
South Florida
knew they needed to address the depth at tight end during this off-season, and that is exactly what they have done. Wharton High's Andreas Shields is the newest commit. At 6-foot-6, 210 pound Shields is an all-around tight end who plays tough, but is also smooth in the open field.
“USF is the school I have always wanted. I’ve been to their practices and I was at the spring game. I knew if they offered I would accept.”
Last season Shields was out for the year with a dislocated knee-cap that did not require surgery. He has been working hard in the gym getting his bench up to 230 and his squat at 330
“I am a military kid, but I transferred to Wharton three years ago. I have lived in
Oklahoma
, Germany,
Georgia
and
Hawaii
.”
Shields actually committed on the practice field to rookie tight end coach Larry Scott.
“I love the coaching staff especially coach Leavitt and coach Scott. I like their energy and the excitement.”
USF has already gotten a verbal commitment from one tight end, Vanguards
Jeff Hawkins
. This is also their second commitment in as many days. First it was OLB Armando Sanchez and now Shields has made the pledge to play for the Bulls.
