When the BIG EAST announced it weekly football award winners Monday,
USF freshmen defensive end George Selvie was named Defensive Player of the Week,
and for the third time this season, Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm was named
the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. In addition, Cincinnati
kicker Kevin Lovell earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Also USF quarterback
Matt Grothe was named to the Big East's weekly Honor Roll
In the Bull's 24-19 win at No. 7 West Virginia , Selvie returned a Slaton
fumble nine yards for a touchdown to give USF their first lead of the game. He
finished the game leading the bulls with eight tackles, 3.5 tackles for
loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Selvie was a big part in the Bulls
holding Slaton, White, and the Mountaineers to just 132 yards on the
ground.
George Selvie, was also named The Walter Camp Football Foundation
National Defensive Player of the Week this past Sunday for his performance in
the Bull's 24-19 win at West Virginia,
Selvie is USF's second player to win Big East Defensive Player of the Week this
year. Bulls cornerback Trae Williams won the award for his performance in
USF's win over Pittsburgh.
Matt Grothe, a red shirt freshman from Lake Gibson, was named to the Big East's
weekly Honor Roll after passing for 279 yards and rushing for 47, with one
rushing and one passing touchdown. against West Virginia. This is the third time
Grothe has been recognized by the BE this season, earning Big East Offensive
Player of the Week after the Bulls beat UCF, and was named Co-Offensive
Player of the Week after a victory against Syracuse.
