TAMPA, FLA. (August 31, 2006) – The USF football team went through its final on-field workout in preparation for Saturday’s opener against McNeese State today. The Bulls worked for just under two hours, including the final 45 minutes in team drills.

USF will have meetings and film sessions Friday, heading into a 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday. The game is televised locally on ABC 28, and the feed will also go to Cox Cable in New Orleans. The game will be replayed on Catch 47, Sunday at 9 p.m.

Head coach Jim Leavitt gave an indication of his respect for I-AA McNeese State when he pointed out, “They beat Georgia Southern last year. We never beat Georgia Southern.” As a fledgling program, the Bulls met Georgia Southern twice, losing 24-23 in 1997 and 28-23 in 1998. McNeese State won its season opener against the Eagles last year by a 23-20 margin.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that seven of USF’s games will be broadcast on XM Satellite radio, including this Saturday’s opener with McNeese State. Other USF feeds will include Kansas (Sept. 23), Rutgers (Sept. 29), Connecticut (Oct. 7), Pittsburgh (Nov. 4), Louisville (Nov. 18) and West Virginia (Nov. 25). All but the Rutgers game will be the USF radio broadcast, while the Rutgers crew will provide the feed for that game.

USF captains this season will be quarterback Pat Julmiste, offensive tackle Marc Dile and linebackers Stephen Nicholas and Ben Moffitt.
