AMPA, FLA. (August 17, 2006) -- USF head coach Jim Leavitt isn’t showing any concern about who his starting quarterback will be on September 2 when the Bulls open the season. After today’s practice, he reiterated his stance that if everything is equal returning starter Pat Julmiste with get the nod over redshirt freshman Matt Grothe and Indiana transfer Grant Gregory.

Asked how the repetitions were being split by the three, Leavitt responded flatly. “I don’t know and I don’t care,” he said. “I have confidence in all three guys. And I wish I could get more reps for Anthony Severino, because in the reps he has, he has looked good.”

Leavitt also showed no concern over starting middle linebacker Ben Moffitt, who has been practicing with a cast on his left hand. “Ben doesn’t know the word easy,” Leavitt said. “He doesn’t know how to take it easy. He always goes all out. I can’t keep him off the field if I want to. He hasn’t slowed down a bit this week,”

The team will have two practices Friday before the first full-scale scrimmage Saturday morning. The scrimmage will be closed, but Leavitt will be available at the conclusion, which is expected to be close to 11 a.m.
