Damian King, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound human highlight reel out of Largo (Fla.) Indian Rocks Christian High School, amassed 2,128 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns in his junior campaign for the 10-4 Golden Eagles. King made a significant impact at wide receiver, running back, quarterback, cornerback, as well as in the return game where he accounted for 438 yards and two touchdowns.
The three-star athlete possesses excellent vision and elusiveness, as well as the ability to stop on a dime and make defenders look silly in the open field, leading him to double-digit scholarship offers before the start of his senior season.
"I got offers from West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Ball State, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Indiana, Iowa State, South Florida, Kansas State, Syracuse and a few more," King said.
King doesn't find traveling out-of-state to spend the next 4-5 years of his college career a problem at all, but playing in the Sunshine State with his family nearby doesn't sound too shabby either.
The University of South Florida is a program that covets King's ability to take it the distance each time he touches the pigskin. Given the proximity between King and the Bulls' campus, the rising senior recently took some time out of his own schedule to get to know Willie Taggart's staff a little bit better.
"(USF) offered me when I took the visit," King said. "It was a nice visit. I like all of the coaches and they seemed real honest. They seemed real cool and upfront with me. That's what I liked the most about it and they made me feel comfortable. They were saying If I came there, they would make me feel like family."
The elusive athlete plans on doing his homework on a number of his college suitors between now and National Signing Day, resulting in a final college decision following his senior campaign.
"I just have to wait until I take my visits to really choose my top schools," King said. "I'm visiting Missouri on the 18th and West Virginia on the 26th of July. I'm going to wait until after my senior year to choose a school, probably Signing Day."
Since the end of his junior year, King has traveled to Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Pittsburgh as well.
