Decked out in South Florida socks and a t-shirt on a beautiful Fathers Day in Tampa Bay, Armunz Mathews and his parents made the stroll down to USF's campus from Tallahassee on Sunday afternoon to get an up-close look at what Willie Taggart's program is all about in Hillsborough County.
Mathews, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back with early verbal scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, LSU, Kentucky, Louisville and USF, was blown away by the presentation presented by Taggart's coaching staff.
Shortly after on his drive back home to the Panhandle, Mathews informed USFNation.com of his early verbal commitment to the Bulls.
"The coaching staff is amazing and my parents loved it," Mathews said. "At that point, I knew it was the perfect place for me.
"Coach Taggart was very happy."
The rising junior out of Tallahassee (Fla.) Florida A&M High School has never had his head wrapped around his individual statistics and accolades. The team always comes first.
"(My strengths are) my leadership, I'm a team player and I'm always looking to make my teammates better," Mathews said. "I lock down and I'm a big hitter."
Mathews is ranked as a three-star prospect on Scout.com and is USF's first commitment of the 2016 recruiting class.Click here for more on Mathews' commitment to South Florida! Follow @Corey_Bender
