Harley Takes His Talents to Tampa Bay

With the Bulls losing star middle linebacker DeDe Lattimore to graduation, South Florida picked up a much needed commitment on Monday night from Georgia Military linebacker, LeGrande Harley.

When the South Florida Bulls take the field in year two of the Willie Taggart era next Fall, they'll be without a familiar face quarterbacking the defense. Star middle linebacker DeDe Lattimore has graduated and has aspirations to play in the NFL next season, but it didn't take long for Bulls' defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan to find his possible replacement.

LeGrande Harley, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound middle linebacker from Georgia Military College, gave his pledge to the Bulls on Monday night, nearly a month after he took his official visit to Tampa Bay to check out the Bulls' program.

"When I came back from the visit, I already knew that's where I'm going," Harley said. "It felt like home for me and the coaching staff felt like family because I'll be spending the next two years there. I just wanted to be around some good players and that's what it was."

If Harley comes in and does what he's asked of, early playing could be in the works.

"They told me I'm number one on their board," Harley said. "When I got there, they showed me their depth chart and their started linebacker is leaving, and their second string needs to have surgery. They said I'll be a MIKE and should be able to start."

The Peach State product was scheduled to take one more official visit to Middle Tennessee on Jan. 17., but as of right now, those plans are up in the air.

"Ah, I'm not for sure if I'm going, but probably not."

Harley is your traditional old school type of linebacker that'll fit in perfectly at South Florida. He has good acceleration out of his stance and diagnoses plays very well from the middle linebacker spot. He doesn't have great speed, but performs his duties well. Chuck Bresnahan will have no problem getting this 230-pound force's nose dirty at the line of scrimmage when he arrives in Hillsborough County.

Harley choose the Bulls over offers from Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee, Western Michigan, Memphis and Georgia State amongst others. The Junior-College defensive standout finished the 2013 season with 36 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble to help lead Georgia Military to a 11-1 record.

Harley has three years to play two.
