It's official. Former hard-hitting Pasco High School defensive back Jamie Byrd will be returning home to the Sunshine State after signing with Willie Taggart and the South Florida Bulls on Wednesday for the early signing period for mid-year Junior-College enrollees.
"It was just the overall feel of the program," Byrd said. "When I went up there for my official visit, they showed me around campus and it was great. It was just that overall feel. It's a good feeling knowing you have a head coach (Willie Taggart), DB's coach (Ron Cooper) and defensive coordinator (Chuck Bresnahan) that you can relate to and really care for."
If Byrd returns to Tampa Bay and does what he's supposed to do, early playing time could be in the works.
"I should be able to get in there and play early at USF."
In 2013, Byrd racked up 53 tackles, two interceptions, seven pass-breakups and a fumble recovery for 11-1 Iowa Western. Byrd originally signed with TCU out of high school.
