There's been numerous linebackers throughout Hillsborough County that have had productive and dominant seasons in 2013 for their high schools. One might argue, but there might not be a bigger force at linebacker than Tampa (Fla.) Sickles linebacker Josh Black - who leads his defense with an astounding 17 sacks.
"As a team, we've been doing great," Black said. "We won our first district title in school history against Tampa Technical last week. Individually, I'm having a good season. I'm one of the top leaders in sacks with 17."
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound headhunter recently picked up a new offer, and his sights set on a group of schools that he plans to visit in the next month.
"My newest offer that I received lately was Toledo," Black said. "I have my Marshall visit set up for Nov. 29 and my Toledo visit is set for Dec. 6. I'm setting up my Arizona one, but I don't when that's going to be yet."
With South Florida in Black's backyard, the Bulls have continued to show love to the local Tampa product - as well as two other programs.
"I just spoke with coach Raymond Woodie yesterday," Black said. "They're still very interested in me and they're just waiting on my decision. It's been between Toledo, Marshall and USF showing the most interest."
As for leaders, all schools are on a level playing field in Black's recruitment.
"No, I'm still working out things with my family," Black said. "They just want me to take my visits and see how I feel about the schools and stuff after. I'll probably make my decision a little bit before signing day."
