The University of Louisville women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference and had three players selected to the preseason All-Conference team.

The University of Louisville women's basketball team is expected to be a top 10 team in the preseason after finishing as runner-up in the NCAA Tournament last season.

On Monday, the Cardinals were picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference.

U of L received one first-place vote and finished second behind defending national champion Connecticut in the AAC race.

Central Florida was picked to finish third in the conference race, followed by Rutgers.

UConn's Breanna Stewart was picked as the AAC Preseason Player of the Year but U of L had three players on the All-Conference team.

Seniors Shoni Schimmel and Antonita Slaughter and junior Sara Hammond were all named to the AAC All-Conference team.

The teams were announced during AAC media day at Uncasville, Conn.
