Tied 69 all, G Sean Kilpatrick's driving layup with 4.3 seconds left in overtime led Cinn to a 71-69 win over Marquette. MU’s Junior Cadougan missed a driving bank shot before the buzzer. Kilpatrick, who finished with a career high 36 pts, was 11 of 23 from the field, including 5 of 14 from three.

Cincinnati (16-3, 4-2 Big East) played out without point guard Cashmere Wright who sprained his right knee at DePaul on Tuesday night. The loss ended Marquette’s (13-4, 4-1) perfect record in The Big East.

[Vander Blue, led MU with 19 pts]

This was another in a series of close games for Marquette. The Golden Eagles had won six in a row, including two overtime games, a one-point game and a seven point game. Vander Blue led Marquette with 19 points and Davante Gardner scored 15 points, all on free throws until a lane jump shot and one with 14.8 seconds left in OT. Earlier, Gardner hit a pair of FTs with 2.9 seconds left in regulation that tied it at 63.

[Davante Gardner, hit 13 FTs]

Marquette shot only 17.9 percent from the field and missed all nine shots from three trailing 29-13 at halftime. However, the second half was a different story as MU scored 50 pts and 6 more in the OT. Blue hit three 3-pointers early in the second half, and MU made five of their first six in the half to catch up. Marquette finally tied it at 61 with a tip in by Trent Lockett with :45 seconds remaining.

Buzz Williams

Here is Buzz Williams from his post game interview with Steve True on ESPN 540.

[describe the final play] "Kilpatrick…he shot 23 times…we could not guard him…he was efficient…Todd[Mayo] was the best guy on him…we did face guard him….we had no choice…he had 36 pts. [final play with Kilpatrick bucket]We switch the ball screen at the end…and he drove it down…if we guarded it in the channel[like we wanted…would have stopped drive]…he tilted the floor downhill…"

[Davante Gardner]He is a hard guy to guard…we rely on him….Junior did a good job feeding him in 2H…..typically he is better than this…[Shooting]…the play[basket and FT] Davante made at the end was a big time play…[Junior’s final shot]that was a good look.

[Davante being knocked down in OT]The official said that the ball knocked him down…that is a really hard ball…he is 288 lbs…I heard a lot of things today from the officials that I never heard before…

[3rd overtime game in first 5 games in Big East.] I think every game is going to be like this[close game]...that is who we are…we are good enough to not get blown out…if we play like we did in 1H…we won’t win another game…in 2H we can beat anyone on any court…have to be more consistent…

[exciting last second wins in Big East so far]We have played 5 games…and 4 out of 5 have been like that …the one[Seton Hall]we blew them out by 7 and they had 7 guys…if we repeat the lesson of 1H…we will lose again…if we have to learn this again…we will lose again…We are not any good…but I love the fight in our guys…great teammates…we may not win another one but if we fight we might have a chance…
