Dontez Ford to Transfer from Syracuse

True freshman safety Dontez Ford has decided to resume his college football career elsewhere, as he will transfer from Syracuse. received word from a source within the Syracuse football program that freshman safety Dontez Ford will transfer. Ford, a three-star prospect out of Sto-Rox High School in Pennsylvania, will likely look to a school closer to home.

Ford's departure leaves the Orange with a lack of depth at the safety position going into 2013. Shamarko Thomas is graduating at the end of the year, leaving Syracuse with Jeremi Wilkes, Durrel Eskridge, and Ritchy Desir as safeties.

The Orange do have one incoming recruit, JUCO safety Darius Kelly, who will help add depth to the position. The staff could look to another player via the same route, or look at current players to change positions.

Freshman Wayne Morgan is currently a corner, but has the skill set to move to safety if needed. Another true freshman, DeVante McFarlane, could also move back as he started fall camp as a safety before being moved to running back where he excelled in high school. Recommended Stories
