USF K Bonani earns BE Player Of the Week

The BIG EAST Conference named Bulls kicker Maikon Bonani the Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his perfect performance in the Bulls 36-37 loss to Syracuse. Bonani hit 5 of 5 field goals scored a school record 18 points in the game.

The Monday after the Bulls 36-37 loss to Syracuse in the final seconds, the BIG EAST Conference named USF kicker Maikon Bonani the Special Teams Player of the Week for his school record setting performance.

The Bulls senior place kicker was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring a school-record 18 points in USF's 37-36 loss to Syracuse, which is also the most by any BIG EAST kicker in a game this season.

Bonani was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts, connecting from 35, 32, 46, 41 and 47 yards, and was 3-for-3 on PATs. His 41-yard field goal gave the Bulls a 26-24 lead into the fourth quarter and late in the game, his 47-yard kick gave the Bulls a 36-31 lead with just 1:23 remaining.

This was the second time Bonani was named the Big East special Teams Player of the week, receiving it for his performance in 2011 against Rutgers after he made field goals from 47 and 21, scoring nine points and was perfect on five placements to help USF in the win against The Scarlet Knights.

Bonani has scored 296 career points, the most of any active BIG EAST player. He was also was placed on the Lou Groza watch list for the best College Kicker Award this season, his second straight nomination.
