The USF staff is still in the market for an offensive tackle, and one player still in play is Shawn Curtis, a 3-star prospect at Orlando (FL) Olympia.
"My summer went real well, I went to a few visits, went to a couple camps and worked out a lot," said Curtis. "I worked the most on my strength, and getting stronger in the weight room."
The 6-foot-5, 270 pound prospect is rated the 66th best tackle in the country and is being recruited like it.
"Recruiting is going well. I had a lot of schools come in an offer me this spring," said Curtis. Right now I have 17 offers and I have several others showing interest in me."
Curtis currently claims 17 offers including South Florida, UCONN, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina State, Duke, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Mississippi State, NC State, Syracuse, East Carolina, Buffalo, FAU, FIU, and South Alabama. With a solid list of offers, Curtis said he does have a few that are sticking out to him currently.
"I have a few I like, North Carolina State, Mississippi State, Iowa State, Syracuse, and USF. I also like FSU," said Curtis. "That's just a couple, but I'll shorten it down and more in just a little bit.
The 3-star tackle said he plans on firming up his list and has a process heading into the season.
"I'm thinking I'll have a top five going into the season. Then I'll take my five official visits during the season and out of those I'll make my pick," said Curtis. "There are a few others I'm looking at, but most likely it'll be out of those schools."
Out of his working list of schools, the only one that hasn't offered yet is Florida State, and that could affect his final five.
"Yeah that will have an impact on my trimmed down list," said Curtis. "If they don't offer me than I won't take an official visit there."
Out of his top school list, Curtis did say one school is recruiting him the hardest.
"I'd say probably USF," said Curtis. "I talk with Coach Shankweiler and Coach Fitch the most over there. They're both great guys, they keep in contact and say great things about me. They're really great people."
"They say they have great plans for me," said Curtis. "They love how explosive I am and that they know I'd fit in perfectly within their system."
Curtis has been by USF before for an unofficial visit during the spring Green & Gold game and for junior day.
"When I went over there I had a great visit. The campus is nice and they have great facilities," said Curtis.
"It was great watching the coach's work with the players"
They want me to come back for another visit. I may just take an unofficial to them, and use my officials for out of state schools, but I'm not sure yet."
As of now Curtis doesn't plan on making a decision until he takes his official visits, but once he does a decision could come at any time.
"I don't have a specific date, because I want to take my official visits first," said Curtis. "But once I go on my visits, if I go somewhere and just fall in love with it. I just might make a decision."
For the time being Curtis has one main focus.
"We put our pads on August 6th and that felt great," said Curtis. "Right now I'm really focused on our upcoming season. That's the most important thing to me me and my number one focus."
