Daphne's Eric Lee, a standout defensive end from Daphne, AL that had double digit offers including ones from South Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Memphis, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, FIU, Tulane and UAB, but after having the Bulls at the top of his list for the last two months ended his recruitment and chose to play for USF according to his head coach Glen Vickery.
"Eric has committed to South Florida," said Vickery. "Obviously he felt that South Florida is a great program and coach Holtz is a great coach, but one of the big things for Eric was academics and he narrowed his choices down based on that, and he felt very comfortable with South Florida academically. That was a big factor in his decision."
Lee plays weak side defensive end for a Daphne team that went a perfect 15-0 record with a class 6A championship in 2010, and through three games this season has 25 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 pass break-ups, a fumble recovery, and a blocked punt this season.
"Eric is a great kid and will be a great addition to their football program," said Vickery. "He's got so much talent and has just started to scratch what his potential can be. I wish we had eleven more just like him. The best thing I can say about him is he's a winner. From the way he works in the weight room, to the way he practices, he takes it to the field of play."
Vickery said that even though Lee didn't begin as a starter, he finished as one and started in the State championship game last season, and that was while playing at just around 195 pounds.
"He didn't begin as a starter, but worked hard and became an outstanding player for us A lot of things changed for him since then especially with his size, he's around 6'4, 235 pounds now, but his work ethic never changed.'
Lee and his family made a visit to Tampa two weeks ago to watch USF play Ball State, saying he had a great time and enjoyed everything about the visit.
"It was very beautiful and had a lot of great scenery, and there was a lot of USF branding all over the city," Lee told USFNation after his visit. "I liked pretty much everything about the campus and the facilities. All the facilities were new, laid out nicely and very close to each other, and the practice complex was very nice and big. The campus was big, but was laid out very nicely. I could see myself living there."
While on his visit, Lee got to spend time with the USF coaching staff, and had a lot of good things to say.
"They're good men and really act like a family, and have each other's back. You can also tell they know what they're doing on the football field," said Lee. "It's something I wouldn't mind being a part of."
The Daphne defensive end said why he had the Bulls out in front after his visit.
"USF is a successful program, have won a lot of big games, and are really a team on the rise. They're very big on academics, and are only seven and a half hours from home so my family could easily come down for games and overall it."
As of Thursday Lee hadn't gotten a chance to talk with USF Head coach skip holtz about the commitment, but will do so as soon as possible, so stay tuned with USFNation.com as we'll have more info on Eric Lee's commit coming shortly.Click here to share your thoughts with other USF fans!
