Gainesville cornerback Chris Bivins had a great spring and is already tearing up the summer camp season. Bivins started out by earning the defensive Back MVP honors at the Miami Camp earlier in the month, then was a standout at both the Florida camp and FSU camp the last few weeks.
"Winning the defensive back MVP at Miami felt real good, especially after coming in as the runner up at the two Nike camps," said Bivins. "I had a real good camp at Florida and had like four picks on the day and ran a 4.4-40 with a 32 inch vertical, so that was good. At FSU I had two picks and had a pretty strong showing. Both seemed real interested and a offer could come down the road."
Bivins will be the USF's SuperBull camp this Saturday and the standout corner said this is the one camp that he is really looking forward to. He'll be coming down with a couple of his teammates WR Cordero Dixon, LB Tashon Whitehurst, and Chris Thompson as well as his family.
"I'm going to the USF SuperBull camp on Saturday, and I can't wait for that. I've been waiting for that camp to get here forever," said Bivins. "Coach McGeoghan has seen how I play but the rest of the other coaches only have seen me on film, so I want to go down there and show them what I can really do. I want to show the DB coach Smith that I'm their top guy."
"I just talked with Coach McGeoghan a little bit ago, and they're real fired up about getting me down there," said Bivins. "I'm looking forward to showing out in front of the whole staff."
The 5-foot11, 169 pound prospect has 15 offers, but recently trimmed his list down to a top five that includes in no particular order South Florida, Arkansas, Illinois, North Carolina State, and Kentucky.
"I don't have a leader, but USF is still in the top," said Bivins.
Bivins talks about what keeps South Florida at the top of his list
"For one, they were the first school to offer me and I'm real close with Coach McGeoghan and the USF coaching staff," said Bivins. "They've been showing a lot of love, and have been since they first offered."
"I've been down there several times and really like the campus and they have awesome facilities and every time I'm there it seems like they keep building them up," said Bivins. They're definitely an up and coming program and seem like a great place to be and play college ball at. They also have great academics at South Florida. They're very big on academics as well as athletics and that's important to me."
Bivins has said previously that he won't wait until the end and could make his decision this summer.
"I like to make it early," said Bivins. "I'm trying to make my choice by the end of this month or by the beginning of next month."
The Gainesville corner said he plans on having a full slate while going to camps and combines this summer.
"I plan on being real busy this summer," said Bivins. "I've been invited to Nike's "The opening in Oregon and ESPN's Gridiron Kings in Orlando. I may also go to camps at Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and NC State."
Bivins is currently rated a 3-star prospect and ranked the 55th best corner in the nation by Scout.com, and is hoping his strong showing will boost his stock further.
"I'm pretty much ranked a 3-star by everybody, but I'm trying to earn that 4th star," said Bivins. "So I'm going to keep working as hard as I can to achieve that."
