University School’s Daniel Perry, a big defensive lineman from Fort Lauderdale made a trip to Tampa for an unofficial visit and gave the USF coaching staff good news. The 6-foot-7.5, 225 pound weak side defensive end told the staff that he was ready to be a Bull.

“Yes sir I gave them a verbal commitment,” said Perry. “I feel good and think that I made a great choice. USF is where I want to be.”

As a junior Perry helped lead his team to a 14-1 record in route to the state championship game where they lost on the final play in overtime. Perry recorded 80 tackles, 50 solo, 3 sacks, 1 interception, 2 passes deflected, and a blocked punt, earning All-Broward county second team. Aside from USF, Perry also had offers from Oregon, Buffalo and Western Michigan, and was getting heavy interest from North Carolina and N.C. State, before choosing the Bulls.

“I chose USF because there is so much to like about the school and the program,” said Perry. “I love the environment, and I really I like the coaching staff and feel that they can improve my game to that next level. I also like the academics at USF overall and what they offer me as a student.”

USF had a one day camp going on at the facilities on Thursday, but that’s not why Perry made the trip to Tampa, and the staff was not expecting Perry to give them the news

“No, I didn’t work out for the camp. I came up to see the academic people,” said Perry. “I also wanted to talk to the coaches faces to face instead of talking to them on the phone. They didn’t know that I was going to commit today, and I wanted to tell them in person.”

Perry talks about how the commitment went down.

“I was sitting there talking to Coach Larry Scott and Coach Hargreaves about a few things and I told him I was ready to commit to USF,” said Perry. “They were both very excited. Coach Hargreaves was jumping around, then Coach Patrick and Coach Holtz all came down and were all happy and congratulated me.”

The relationship with the USF coaching staff was another big factor in Perry’s decision.

“I really like all those guys, they’re real good people,” said Perry. “I think they’re a great staff and really good coaches I’ve been up to the school and watched practice and like their style of coaching and feel they will push me, and develop me to be the best that I can be.”

The Bulls offered Perry several months ago, he attended the USF junior day and their Green and Gold game and liked everything he saw.

“I like the location of the school, the campus is great and the facilities are real nice and top of the line,” said Perry. “The program is poised to very big things.

After talking things over with his family Perry decided that there was no reason to wait any longer to make his choice.

“I figured why wait when you know where you want to go,” said Perry. “This is the best place for me, so I decided to end it and tell them I was ready to be a Bull!”

Signing day isn’t until February so how firm is Perry to USF and will he take other visits?

“I’m pretty solid to USF,” said Perry. “I may take some visits this fall, but I haven’t really thought about it. I’m really feeling USF right now.”
