The results from the Bulls big recruiting weekend keeps getting better for Coach Holtz and staff, as Robinson wide Receiver Ruben Gonzalez has decided to end his recruitment and be a Bull.
"The coaches came by my home yesterday and that went very well," said Gonzalez. "I'm actually about to call them right now and give them my commitment. You're the first reporter to hear that."
Gonzalez was a two-way star for Robinson, finishing with 651 yards and seven touchdowns with a team leading 46 catches on offense, while recording 34 tackles on defense with one interception. He also had a blocked punt that was returned for a TD. Schools have taken notice of Gonzales who received over twenty scholarship offers from schools across the country, but has trimmed his list down to USF, Purdue, and Iowa State before choosing USF.
"I just felt very comfortable with how they treated me throughout my recruitment," said Gonzales. "They're very family orientated with their players, and it just felt like home to me."
The 6'3, Ruben said he was going to wait until after taking his visits to make his choice, but decided to end his recruitment now.
"I literally decided about two minutes and 37 seconds ago," said Ruben. "My family knew, the USF Coaches had a good idea, but now I'm going public."
Gonzalez talked more about what put the Bulls over the top.
"Coach Holtz was honest before and after they offered me," said Ruben. "Coach Smith has been recruiting me hard and I felt like we developed a good bond, and coach McGeoghan is great too, I love the coaching staff."
Ruben took his official visit to USF this past weekend and he said that pretty much sealed the deal for him.
"Yeah the weekend pretty much was the icing on the cake," said Gonzalez. "I've been there before a few times already, but while I was there I got to meet everybody and when they took me to the school I got see what I wanted to study, and they have a real good medical program, and I'll get to watch surgery, so that helped, because I already knew everything I wanted to about the football program, which is great. What can I say, Go Bulls!"
Gonzalez was supposed to take a visit to Iowa State this weekend, but that's not going to happen now.
"No I'm not taking anymore visits, I'm done with recruiting," said Gonzalez. "I was going to see what ISU was like, and maybe do something special for signing day, but decided I didn't want to wait."
The 6'3, 200 pound prospect is rated as the No 81 receiver prospect by Scout.com
"I'm very happy and I'm 100 percent'" said Ruben. "I'm just excited to be a Bull now!"Click here for more info or to share your thoughts with other USF insiders on the new committ -- get the inside scoop!
